Who Is Dr. Mizera?

Dr. Mizera is a creative, inspiring, compassionate individual who enjoys being active athletically and working with others as a team toward common goals.  She is a natural at encouraging others to do their best. She seeks to create empowering opportunities for herself and others, breaking through thoughts of limitation.  As a life long learner she seeks new information, intuitively integrates it and shares the enlightenment she gains with others.  Encouragement, empowerment and enlightenment are what she enjoys fostering in all her relationships. She collaborates with her patients in this matter to assist them in their health and wellness.

Professionally, Dr. Mizera graduated from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1989, completing her osteopathic internship in the Chicago Osteopathic Hospital System in 1990.  She did her Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine residency at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, finishing in 1993.  She completed one year sports medicine primary care fellowship at Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center (now St James Medical Center, Olympia Fields, IL) under the direction of Mark McKeigue D.O.  She started her practice in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) and sports medicine at Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical Center in 1994. She received her board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1995 from the American Board of PMR as well as the American Osteopathic Board of PMR.  Over time with growth in experience and opportunity, Dr. Mizera provided care in inpatient, outpatient and nursing home settings as well as assuming duties as the Medical Director for the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at St James Medical Center 1999-2001.   

Successful in building a full range of practice skills and patient care in hospital-based physical medicine, Dr. Mizera had a desire to shift the focus of her practice and work closer to her neighborhood, Dr. Mizera left the St James community relocating her practice at Swedish Covenant Hospital in 2002.  Her practice focus has been toward developing an Osteopathic manipulative medicine presence in the Pain Center at Swedish Covenant Hospital.  She teaches osteopathic manipulation to osteopathic students and residents on campus.  Her committee work at Swedish Covenant includes; Integrative Medicine Healing Team (Planetree Initiative sub-committee), the Institutional Review Board, and Physician Advisory board for the Galter Life Center.

Post-graduate courses include multiple manual medicine and cranial osteopathic medicine courses as well as prolotherapy, esoteric healing, aromatherapy, and team management and leadership.  In 2005 she received her board certification in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine from the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.

Personally, Dr. Mizera enjoys being active athletically.  Cycling, walk/running, yoga, group dance/aerobics, badminton, martial arts are among her interests and activities to stay fit.  She completed her first half marathon in August 2009, enjoys biking to work weather permitting, as well as herb gardening.  She is the co-organizer with Dr. Bernadette Kohn for the Chicago Osteopathic Cranial Study Group which is a group of physicians/dentists committed to serious study of the traditional Cranial Osteopathic Concepts.
